At the same meeting, we also celebrated Christmas with the annual Christmas party and gift swap.  We had one of the largest turnouts of the year in terms of headcount for the annual event and just about everyone added both to their waistline and their kit collections.

Hagerstown, MD, November 13, 2007 – The November carrier landing event was a lot of fun and a great success.  Steve Jones built the carrier which also had electric landing lights.  We even tried a couple of night landings.  The overall winner was Mike Arnold, however, apparently none of us have a bright future as a naval aviator.  Most attempts could be better categorized as crash landings (one quote, “death and destruction”).   The club hopes to have another carrier landing event in the spring.  Also at the meeting, new member Mike Wheeler displayed his car builds, one of which took third place at the IPMS Region 2 Convention contest held in Roanoke on October 12, 2007.  Other displays included Ed Warner’s massive BR52 locomotive and tender and Jan Hiett’s Krupp Protze.

Hagerstown, MD, October 9, 2007 – Preparations for the November carrier landing event begin in earnest during our October meeting.  Multiple members brought models in progress or completed models for modification in preparation of the big landing event scheduled for the November regular meeting.  Steve Jones completed design and construction of the carrier deck and demonstrated the basic “flying” and landing techniques specific to his carrier deck.  The landing deck is even fitted with lights for night operations.  Contestants will attempt to land their models on the carrier deck, earning progressively higher points by putting the tail hook “in the spaghetti” and on the best arresting wire.  For those that survive the initial landings, we will turn off the lights and land them in the dark.

Hagerstown, MD, September 11, 2007 – The summer club contest was held during our regular meeting on September 11, 2007.  As is typical of the summer event, turnout was light but the quality of models presented was excellent.  The Best of Show went to Will Snyder for his P-38 diorama.  The club also announced we will have our “Best of the Best” contest at the February 2008 meeting.  In this contest, anyone that has won Best of Show or First Place during 2007, including the January 2008 contest, is eligible to compete in the popular vote contest.
