Hagerstown, MD, August
11, 2009 - The September meeting of the IPMS Tri-State
Scale Model Club featured Dave Monet’s follow-up presentation on using AUTO-AIR
Custom Automotive paint for modeling and other hobby projects. Dave provided invaluable information
regarding mixing, spraying, mixing and effects that he developed working with
the manufacturer to improve the product line.
Dave also donated two air brushes for club raffle and fund raiser. A special thanks
goes out to Testors, who graciously provided one of
there new Limited Edition Sturm Tiger models from their Four Star Collector
Series. We all look forward to a review
of the kit at some point in the near future on this site. Two members were recognized for contributions
to well circulated, model oriented periodicals.
Rob Hade had an article published in Model Cars Magazine featuring fire
trucks he built and photographed and Ben Gray had a model featured in the
Reader’s Gallery of FineScale Modeler Magazine.

There was a very nice model of the 110’ boat S.C. 428 that was converted from a World War1 Sub Chaser to a fireboat and renamed the Cascade that served the Baltimore City Fire Department from 1921 to 1960.
There were some wonderfully detailed dioramas showing firefighters in action. The diorama on the left actually had smoke and lights!

The tables once again were full of military armor and aircraft of every type!

More cars and trucks showed up at this year’s show and more tables were added. The junior’s table had some nice models on display, including this Wooly Mammoth.

There was a huge raffle table chocked full of model kits and supplies and you could choose between different categories to win a prize from. That was pretty cool!
The dioramas were all very impressive and the amount of detail was amazing!

The figures were some of my favorites, because of the level of detail required to make them look realistic. The eyes on the female figure were as if you were looking into real eyes! The armor on the horse looked just like the real thing! They were amazing.

Hagerstown, MD, June
9, 2009 – The June meeting of
Tri-State Scale Model Car Club featured Greg “The Paper Cutter” Perry’s
presentation of “Building Paper Models”.
Greg demonstrated multiple techniques for cutting, forming and building
models made from paper. Tools and
tricks-of-trade were the most popular of the topics discussed. Greg also demonstrated how building paper
models at an advanced level can lead to models of the same or greater quality
as models built with other materials. He
also had several of his latest models on display for members and guests.

January 13, 2009 – Fellow club member, and former President of
IPMS Tri-State Scale Modelers, Dr. Allen Ditto (Doc) was the feature speaker at this months IPMS Tri-State
Scale Modelers club meeting. Doc’s
demonstration titled “Tools of Trade” wowed modelers with the variety and scope
of tools used in his modeling projects.
Not only were the tool right for just about every modeling job, but he
also shared a story of how he came to own them.
The night was filled with tips, acquisition strategies and other
interesting information.
Doc’s Presentation Members Judge Best of Best The Paper Cutter
In addition to Doc’s
presentation and regular club business, the club also conducted the annual
“Best of the Best” contest that matches up winners of all the contests in the
previous year against each other to determine … you guessed it, the best
